Drama has always played an important role in my life. I first attended Speech and Drama classes run by the late Rita Lofts at the age of four and believe this is an excellent age to start (although it is never too late to start as my former students include adults with no previous experience).

In addition to Elms Studio I teach at a number of educational trusts and schools and, including a leading Independent Girls School, in the Bedford and Northamptonshire area delivering London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and English Speaking Board (ESB) tuition in disciplines including Acting, Verse & Prose and Speaking in Public.

In addition to this tuition I teach both a Performing Arts and Youth Theatre session on a weekly basis and create and deliver bespoke tuition (including workshops) for all ages including adult amateur performers, trainee teachers and foreign exchange students.

Relevant Education

After studying both ESB and LAMDA as a child, I trained as a teacher with LAMDA and hold their Licentiate Teaching Diploma, I regularly attend LAMDA courses and was a full member of the LAMDA Teaching Association until this was disbanded in 2014.

To further enhance my knowledge while teaching I studied English Literature with the Open University, gaining both a Diploma and BA (Hons) degree in the subject. I find this allows me to help my students gain a deeper insight into the literature requirement in both the LAMDA Communication and Performance syllabus.

I enrolled as a mature student to The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (which is the University of London's drama conservatoire) attaining both a Post Graduate Certificate in Directing Text with Young People and a Master’s degree in Applied Theatre: Drama in the Community and Drama in Education.

Performance

Due to my passion for theatre for young people I have been actively involved in the National Theatre Connections programme co-founding High-Jinks Creative Drama Group to allow students the opportunity to be involved and co-directing all their entries.

I truly believe in students of all ages having the opportunity to both perform and watch others perform and I am an active member of the committee for the Northampton Festival of the Performing Arts helping to organise the annual Speech and Drama section of the Festival.

Professional Membership

I am a member of The Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama, hold an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Enhanced Certificate and am fully insured. As part of my professional development I have trained as an assessor for the Children’s University and as an Art Award Advisor
